Logan, UT (January 26, 2005) -- The Open Sustainable Learning Opportunity (OSLO) Group announced today the availability of the source code for the Open Learning Support software, which provides discussion spaces around content from MIT OpenCourseWare and Rice Connexions. The source code is made available under joint Open Source (tm) certified licenses, the GPL and ZPL. Individuals interested in obtaining the source code should see the OLS project site on SourceForge for downloads and additional information: http://sourceforge.net/projects/ols-usu.
Dr. David Wiley, Executive Director of the OSLO Group, described the release as a show of commitment to principles of open access. "The open source release of our Open Learning Support software demostrates how committed we are to increasing access to educational opportunity," he said. Wiley also stated that those interested in OLS now have two options. They can partner with the OSLO Group and receive free hosting and support for OLS integration with their open access educational projects, or they can install and run OLS themselves.
The Open Learning Support software and its open source release are funded by a grant from The William and Flora Hewlett Foundation.
