i am just learning music and my teacher write a bunch of notes down the side of a paper and said write the notes that would follow in the major scale(guitar). so i wrote down the notes using the w w h w w w h thing and my daughter told me i was wrong because you cant have the same notes twice in a row. example

her theory is that need to write down all of the notes first and then add the sharps and flats this worked up until i got to the starting note of g flat whicH goes

Gb Ab Bb B C# D# E# G AM I RIGHT OR WRONG?
I DONT GET IT!

I WAS JUST STARTING WITH THE ROOT NOTE AND WRITING WHAT CAME NEXT IN THE NOTES WHETHER THEY BE A SHRP OR FLAT. EXAMPLE

Gb G# A# B C# D# F F#

Hi everyone. I am interested in finding a magic machine to transcribe (mostly) "c" instrumental sheet music to "b flat" sheet music. By hand, it takes me hours on end. What are some of the methods/software/hardware you use? Thanks. Chuck

Why is the order of sharps written on the staff the way it is(i.e. F# on the fifth line instead of the first space,G# on the 1st space above the staff instead of the second line,etc.)?Thanks.

Have any music educators been using Sound Reasoning for at least a part of their music appreciation class?

I've been trying to find out an easy way for them to email me their answers to the questions embedded there.

Research project: Test your senses!

I`ve just started research for my master thesis and I would very much appreciate if you participated in my test. It consists of an online test, followed by a short survey. The whole test takes 15 minutes.

Basically, the test helps to find out what is your dominant sense, if it`s either sight or hearing. Most of the people think that their dominant sense is sight, because it`s the sense of survival and they couldn`t imagine their life without eyes. But this test helps to discover the truth :-)

Choral Singing

Ok so my show choir group is performing Ave Maria by Franz Biebl. It's the version in 4 part harmony and the Trio (S.A.T) echoing them. It opens with a bass solo and contains two tenor solos as well. I have a question about a certain note. There is a tenor note on the bass clef that is written on the 3rd space above the bass staff.

I believe we're singing on F.

What I don't get is how can this F sound so high on the Bass clef, I mean I can barely reach it. But on the Treble Clef is simply the bottom space and is relatively low. Tenors read from both clefs so I'm a little confused. The clefs overlap so why is the F on the 3rd space above the bass clef so high while the F on the first space of the treble clef is low? They're supposed to be the same note right?
